Possible Causes

Damaged J1772 charge handle, Open or shorted pilot wire in charge cable, Faulty control board pilot driver circuit, Corroded or bent pins in vehicle connector

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power to the JuiceBox at the breaker before touching the unit or cable. Do not attempt repairs with the cover open while energized.

  • Power-cycle the charger: Turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON. Try reconnecting the vehicle. Sometimes the pilot circuit latches a fault that clears with a full reboot.
  • Inspect the J1772 connector: With power OFF, examine the metal pins in the JuiceBox handle. Look for bent, recessed, or burned pins, and any debris or corrosion. Clean gently with a dry, soft brush; do not use liquids. If pins are damaged, the J1772 charge cable assembly must be replaced.
  • Check cable strain and kinks: Run your hand along the JuiceBox output cable. If you feel sharp kinks, crushed sections, or cuts, the pilot conductor may be broken. In this case, replace the output cable / J1772 assembly.
  • Test with another vehicle (if available): If E01 appears with one car but not another, the issue may be with the vehicle’s inlet. If it appears with all vehicles, the fault is likely in the JuiceBox cable or main control board.
  • Inspect internal pilot connections (advanced): With power OFF and cover removed, verify the pilot wire from the control board to the cable gland is firmly seated and not pinched. If the wire is intact but E01 persists, the main control board pilot driver may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
