Possible Causes
Broken proximity switch in J1772 handle, Damaged resistor network in handle, Open or shorted PP wire in output cable, Faulty PP sensing input on main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before inspecting the connector or opening the unit.
- Check connector latch operation: With power OFF, insert the J1772 handle into the vehicle and operate the latch. It should move smoothly and spring back. A sticky or broken latch can prevent the proximity switch from signaling correctly.
- Inspect handle for damage: Look for cracks, impact damage, or signs of water ingress around the latch area. If present, replace the J1772 charge cable assembly.
- Cable continuity test (advanced): With power OFF and cable disconnected internally, measure continuity of the PP conductor from the handle to the control board connector. An open circuit indicates a broken wire; replace the cable.
- Board input check: If the handle and cable test good, the PP sensing circuit on the main control board may be defective and require board replacement.
