Possible Causes

Leakage current detected by integrated DC residual current sensor, Faulty insulation in vehicle or cable, Moisture ingress in Type 2 socket, Defective KEBA RCD/RCM module on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a charger that reports ground fault errors without investigation. Risk of electric shock. Isolate power at the main breaker before opening the unit.

Step-by-step checks:

  • 1. Disconnect vehicle and cable: Unplug the cable from both the EV and the KEBA charger. Inspect the cable for cuts, crushed sections, or exposed conductors. Replace if damaged.
  • 2. Dry the socket: Check the Type 2 socket for visible moisture, condensation, or dirt. If damp, leave the cover open (if weather-protected) and allow to dry completely. Do not use heat guns or open flames.
  • 3. Reset the charger: After at least 10 minutes with no load connected, switch OFF the upstream breaker, wait 60 seconds, then switch ON. Observe if E02 clears with no cable connected.
  • 4. Test with another vehicle/cable: If E02 only appears with a specific EV or cable, the insulation fault is likely external to the KEBA unit. Have the vehicle or cable inspected by a qualified technician.
  • 5. Internal RCD module check (qualified person): With power isolated, open the charger and locate the integrated residual current monitoring (RCM) module or RCD section on the main control board. Inspect for burn marks, cracked housings, or loose connectors. Verify that the RCM sensor ring around the power conductors is firmly seated and that conductors are not touching the sensor body.
  • 6. Component replacement: If E02 persists with different vehicles and cables and no external fault is found, replace the RCM/RCD module or the entire main control board as per KEBA service instructions.

If you are unsure about insulation testing or RCD diagnostics, contact a licensed electrician familiar with KEBA EVSE.
