Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Overheating can damage insulation and components. Allow the unit to cool before touching. Isolate power before opening the housing.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Check installation location: Ensure the KEBA charger has adequate clearance on all sides as specified in the manual. Remove any objects blocking airflow or radiating heat onto the unit.
- 2. Inspect for direct sunlight: If installed outdoors, check whether the unit is exposed to strong direct sunlight for long periods. Consider adding shading or a canopy if allowed by KEBA guidelines.
- 3. Examine load settings: Verify that the maximum charging current configured in the KEBA settings matches the supply capacity and installation conditions. Reducing the current limit can lower internal temperatures.
- 4. Internal inspection (power off): Open the housing and look for dust buildup, especially on heat sinks and around power electronics. Gently remove dust with a dry brush or low-pressure air (avoid damaging components).
- 5. Check terminal tightness: Loose power terminals on the main contactor, input block, or Type 2 socket can cause localized heating. Retighten to specified torque.
- 6. Sensor and board check: Locate the temperature sensor(s) on the main control board or power module. Inspect for broken leads or poor contact with heat sinks. If the sensor is damaged or readings are clearly incorrect, replace the temperature sensor or the affected power module/main control board.
If E05 recurs even at reduced current and normal ambient temperature, discontinue use and have the unit evaluated by a KEBA service technician.
