Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the charger at the dedicated EVSE breaker before touching any wiring. Do not open the charger enclosure unless power is isolated and you are qualified to work on electrical equipment.
- 1. Power-cycle the charger: Turn the EV charger off at the breaker for 2–3 minutes, then turn it back on. Reconnect the vehicle and see if E01 clears.
- 2. Inspect the Type 2 connector: Unplug the cable from the vehicle. Check the Type 2 plug and the Kia wallbox socket for bent pins, melted plastic, corrosion, or debris. Clean gently with a dry, soft brush; do not use liquids.
- 3. Try a different cable (if removable): If your Kia charger uses a detachable Type 2 cable, test with another known-good cable. If E01 disappears, replace the original cable.
- 4. Check cable strain relief: Examine where the cable enters the charger housing and the handle. If the sheath is pulled out, cut, or kinked, the pilot/proximity wires may be broken internally. In this case, the cable assembly should be replaced, not repaired.
- 5. Inspect vehicle inlet (basic check): Look at the vehicle’s charge port for contamination or damage. If other public chargers work fine with your Kia EV, the issue is likely in the home charger.
- 6. Internal board diagnosis (advanced): With power off and cover removed, a technician can check continuity of the CP and PP lines from the socket to the main control board and verify correct resistor values. If the CP/PP circuit on the board is faulty, the main control board must be replaced.
If E01 persists after cable and connector checks, contact a qualified EVSE technician or Kia Energy support for board-level diagnostics and replacement.
