Possible Causes
Utility supply voltage below charger minimum, Undersized supply cable causing voltage drop under load, Loose line or neutral connections at the charger terminals, Faulty input voltage sensing circuit on Kia charger main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Undervoltage can cause overheating and unreliable operation. Do not repeatedly reset the charger without addressing the supply issue.
- 1. Check other loads: If E06 appears when large appliances (HVAC, ovens) run, your supply may be overloaded. Try charging when fewer loads are active.
- 2. Measure voltage under load: Have an electrician measure voltage at the charger while it attempts to start charging. If voltage drops significantly below the rated value, the supply wiring or upstream circuit is inadequate.
- 3. Inspect terminations: With power off, an electrician should tighten all line and neutral terminals in the charger and at the breaker. Loose connections increase voltage drop and heat.
- 4. Upgrade wiring if needed: If the run from the panel to the charger is long or uses undersized cable, upgrading to a larger gauge as per Kia’s installation manual can resolve undervoltage.
- 5. Board-level check: If measured voltage is stable and within spec but E06 persists, the input sensing circuit on the main control board may be defective and require board replacement.
