Possible Causes
Incorrect pilot duty cycle generated by Kia charger control board, Short or open circuit on control pilot (CP) line in cable, Faulty pilot resistor network in the Type 2 connector, Firmware corruption affecting pilot generation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: The control pilot is a low-voltage signal, but the charger still contains high-voltage components. Isolate power before opening the unit.
- 1. Try a full reboot: Turn off the charger at the breaker for 5 minutes, then restore power. This can clear transient firmware issues affecting pilot generation.
- 2. Inspect cable and connector: Check for kinks, cuts, or crushed sections in the cable. Examine the Type 2 plug for bent or recessed pins, especially the small pilot pin.
- 3. Test with another cable (if detachable): If your Kia charger uses a removable cable, swap it with a known-good cable. If E10 clears, replace the original cable.
- 4. Firmware update: If your charger supports firmware updates via app or service port, check Kia’s support site or app for the latest firmware and apply it following official instructions.
- 5. Board-level diagnosis (technician): A technician can measure the pilot signal waveform and duty cycle at the connector. If out of spec, the main control board or pilot driver circuit must be replaced.
