Possible Causes

Damaged J1772 pilot pin, Faulty control pilot (CP) circuit on main control board, Loose harness connection between pilot circuit and main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the circuit breaker feeding the Lectron charger and verify power is off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching wiring or opening any covers.

Step-by-step checks:

  • 1. Power-cycle the charger: Turn the breaker OFF for 2–3 minutes, then back ON. Reconnect the vehicle and see if E01 clears. Temporary firmware glitches can cause pilot errors.
  • 2. Inspect the J1772 connector: Disconnect from the vehicle. Examine the small pilot pin (usually the thinner pin) for bending, corrosion, or contamination. Clean gently with electrical contact cleaner and a soft brush; do not file or sand the pin.
  • 3. Check for cable strain: Follow the charge cable from the J1772 handle back to the Lectron wall unit. Look for kinks, crushed sections, or cuts that could damage the pilot conductor. If the cable jacket is damaged, discontinue use and replace the cable assembly.
  • 4. Verify vehicle inlet: Try another EV if available, or test your EV on a different Level 2 charger. If the error only appears with one vehicle, the issue may be with the vehicle’s charge port, not the Lectron unit.
  • 5. Internal inspection (advanced): With power OFF and cover removed (only if you are qualified), locate the low-voltage harness from the cable gland to the main control board. Reseat the connector for the pilot signal (often labeled CP/Pilot). Look for burnt spots or cracked solder joints on the PCB. If any damage is visible, the main control board should be replaced rather than repaired in the field.

When to stop: If E01 persists after these checks, or if you see burnt components or melted plastic, do not continue using the charger. Contact Lectron support or a qualified EVSE technician for main board or cable replacement.
