Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker before inspecting the cable or opening the unit.
- 1. Inspect the J1772 latch: Check that the mechanical latch on the Lectron connector moves freely and springs back. If it feels loose, jammed, or does not click, the internal proximity switch may not be actuating correctly.
- 2. Clean the connector: Dirt or debris around the latch can prevent proper operation. Clean the latch area with a dry cloth and compressed air. Avoid lubricants that can attract dust.
- 3. Test cable strain: Gently flex the cable near the handle while watching the display (with power ON and vehicle disconnected). If E04 appears or disappears when the cable is moved, the proximity conductor inside the cable may be broken.
- 4. Internal cable connection: With power OFF and cover removed, inspect where the cable enters the Lectron unit. Ensure the low-voltage harness for PP/proximity is fully seated on the main control board and that no wires are pinched at the cable gland.
Resolution: If the latch is physically broken or the proximity switch is faulty, the entire Lectron J1772 cable assembly should be replaced. Field repair of the handle internals is not recommended.
