Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the EV from the charger and switch off the charger’s upstream circuit breaker or isolator before opening any covers. Only qualified persons should work inside the unit.
Step-by-step checks:
- Inspect the cable and plug: Check the Type 2 plug for bent, recessed, or contaminated pins (especially the small pilot pin). Clean light dirt with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasives.
- Try another cable: If your Mennekes home charger has a socket (not tethered cable), test with a known-good Type 2 cable. If E01 disappears, the original cable is likely defective.
- Check socket contacts: With power OFF, visually inspect the Mennekes Type 2 socket for corrosion, discoloration, or mechanical damage. Ensure the pilot contact spring is not collapsed.
- Internal wiring check (qualified person): Open the housing and verify that the CP conductor is firmly clamped in the terminal block and correctly routed to the main control PCB. Look for loose screws, broken conductors, or signs of overheating.
- Control board test: If wiring and cable are OK, the CP driver circuit on the main control board may be defective. Many Mennekes boards have diagnostic LEDs; consult the service manual to confirm CP status. Replace the control board if the CP output is missing or unstable.
When to call a technician: If you are not trained to work on live electrical equipment or if the fault persists after cable replacement and visual checks, contact an authorized Mennekes service partner.
