Possible Causes

Missing or high-resistance PE connection at supply, Loose PE terminal inside charger, Corroded earth bar, Faulty PE monitoring circuit on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Earth faults are critical. Do not operate the charger until the PE connection is verified by a qualified electrician.

  • Verify PE at supply: Have an electrician confirm that the protective earth conductor is present, correctly sized, and has low impedance back to the main earth bar.
  • Inspect internal PE bonding: With power OFF, check that the PE conductor is securely connected to the charger’s PE terminal block and that the chassis bonding strap is intact and tight.
  • Look for corrosion: In outdoor Mennekes units, inspect for rust or corrosion at earth connection points. Clean and re-terminate if necessary.
  • PE monitoring circuit: Some Mennekes models monitor PE continuity electronically. If all mechanical connections are sound, the monitoring circuit on the main PCB may be defective and require replacement.

Do not bypass PE monitoring or operate the charger without a verified earth connection.
