Charger will not start charging; vehicle shows ‘Charging not possible’ and wallbox display shows E01 shortly after plugging in.

Safety first: Turn off the Mercedes-Benz wallbox at the dedicated circuit breaker and verify no LEDs are lit before touching the plug or terminals.

• Inspect the Type 2 plug: Check the mechanical latch on the plug that locks into the vehicle inlet. Make sure it moves freely and is not cracked or jammed. Clean any visible dirt or debris.
• Check PP pin condition: Look into the plug head and locate the smaller signal pins. Inspect the Proximity Pilot (PP) pin for bending, corrosion, or burn marks. Do not use metal tools inside the connector; use a soft brush and electrical contact cleaner only.
• Try another cable: If your Mercedes-Benz wallbox uses a detachable Type 2 cable, test with a known-good, compatible Mercedes-Benz or IEC 62196-2 cable. If E01 disappears, the original cable is defective and should be replaced.
• Reset the wallbox: After inspection, restore power at the breaker, wait 60 seconds, then reconnect the vehicle. Observe if E01 returns.
• When to call a technician: If the error persists with a known-good cable, the proximity pilot circuit on the internal control board may be faulty. An authorized Mercedes-Benz wallbox technician should test the PP circuit and replace the control board if required.
