Possible Causes
Leakage current detected on output, Faulty EV cable insulation, Moisture ingress in charge gun or socket, Internal DC leakage sensor fault on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not use the charger if you suspect insulation damage or water inside the connector. Isolate power before inspection.
- 1. Inspect the EV cable and plug: Look for cuts, kinks, crushed sections or exposed conductors on the tethered cable or Type 2 plug. If damaged, stop using it immediately.
- 2. Check for moisture: Examine the Type 2 socket or tethered plug for water, condensation or corrosion. Dry gently with a clean cloth and allow several hours in a dry environment before retesting.
- 3. Try another cable/vehicle: If you have a socketed Zappi, test with a different Type 2 cable. Also try a different EV if available to rule out a vehicle-side earth fault.
- 4. Inspect earth connection: With power off, verify the earth conductor is securely connected at the Zappi terminal block and at the consumer unit. Poor earth can cause nuisance RCD trips.
- 5. Reset and test: Power-cycle the Zappi at the breaker, then initiate a charge. If E002 reappears immediately with multiple vehicles/cables, the internal RCD/DC leakage sensor or main PCB may be faulty.
- 6. Do not bypass RCD: If the error persists, arrange professional service. The internal RCD module or main control board will likely need replacement.
