Zappi displays E003, charging stops or will not start, often accompanied by earth/ground warning icon

Critical safety warning: An earth fault can make exposed metal parts live. Do not use the charger until the earth is verified and the fault is resolved.

• 1. Check supply earth continuity: Have a qualified electrician test the earth loop impedance and continuity from the consumer unit to the Zappi. Correct any broken or loose earth connections.
• 2. Inspect internal earth bonding: With power isolated, remove the Zappi cover and confirm the earth wire is firmly connected to the earth terminal and chassis bonding points.
• 3. Verify PEN fault settings: On models with built-in PEN fault protection, ensure the configuration matches your supply type (TN-C-S vs TT). Incorrect configuration can cause false E003 errors.
• 4. Check for corrosion: Look for corrosion on earth terminals or bonding straps, especially in outdoor installations. Clean and re-terminate if necessary.
• 5. Test with known-good supply: If possible, temporarily feed the Zappi from a verified-good supply to see if E003 clears. This helps distinguish between installation and charger fault.
• 6. If earth is confirmed good: The internal earth monitoring / PEN detection circuit on the main PCB may be defective and require board replacement by a service technician.
