Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the dedicated breaker feeding the Nissan home charger and verify power is off with a non-contact voltage tester before opening any covers.
Steps to try:
- Power-cycle the EVSE and vehicle: Turn off the breaker for 60 seconds, then turn it back on. Unlock and relock the vehicle, then reconnect the charge connector.
- Inspect the charge connector: Check the J1772/Nissan connector for bent, recessed, or corroded pins, especially the small pilot pin. Clean light debris with a dry, soft brush only. Do not use liquids.
- Check the cable strain relief: At the bottom of the Nissan wallbox, verify the charge cable is not pulled or twisted. If the cable jacket is cut or crushed, discontinue use.
- Internal inspection (advanced): With power OFF, remove the front cover of the Nissan EVSE. Locate the low-voltage harness from the control board to the charge cable. Reseat any loose plug-in connectors. Look for broken conductors or burn marks near the pilot output terminals.
- Test with another EV (if available): If another J1772-compatible EV charges normally, the issue may be with the vehicle inlet rather than the Nissan charger.
If E01 persists after connector and harness inspection, the control board or cable assembly likely needs replacement. Contact a qualified EVSE technician or Nissan Energy support.
