Possible Causes

Blocked ventilation openings on Nissan wallbox, Failed internal cooling fan, High ambient temperature exceeding EVSE rating, Temperature sensor failure on control board or heatsink

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Allow the unit to cool before touching the enclosure. Turn OFF the breaker if the housing feels very hot.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure there is adequate clearance around the Nissan EVSE (per manual). Remove any objects blocking vents or airflow.
  • Clean dust buildup: With power OFF, remove the cover and gently blow out dust from the fan and heatsink using dry compressed air. Hold the fan blades to prevent overspinning.
  • Verify fan operation: Restore power and start a charge while observing the fan through the vents. If the fan does not run when the unit warms up, the fan or its power supply may be faulty.
  • Ambient temperature: If installed in a garage or enclosure that gets very hot, consider improving ventilation or relocating the EVSE.

If E09 persists in normal ambient conditions with a clean, working fan, the temperature sensor or control board likely needs replacement.
