Possible Causes

Incorrect pilot signal generation on Nissan control board, Damaged pilot resistor network, Vehicle misinterpreting pilot signal, Loose pilot connection in charge cable

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power before opening the EVSE or handling internal wiring.

  • Check EVSE settings: If your Nissan charger has configurable current settings (via DIP switches or app), verify they match the circuit breaker rating and installation manual.
  • Inspect pilot wiring: With power OFF, open the EVSE and trace the pilot conductor from the control board to the cable terminals. Ensure the screw terminals are tight and the conductor is not nicked.
  • Connector inspection: Examine the pilot pin in the J1772 connector for corrosion or damage. Clean gently with a dry brush.
  • Test with another EV: If E11 only occurs with one vehicle, the car’s onboard charger may be rejecting the pilot signal; consult a dealer.

If wiring and settings are correct and E11 persists across vehicles, the control board’s pilot circuit is likely defective and requires replacement.
