Possible Causes
Loose mounting screws on main contactor, Worn contactor coil causing chatter, Loose transformer laminations in internal power supply, Excessive line voltage causing magnetostriction noise
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before tightening any internal components.
- Identify source: With the cover off (and power OFF), locate the main contactor and any small transformers. Check for loose mounting hardware.
- Tighten mounts: Secure the contactor and transformer with appropriate screws/bolts. Do not overtighten plastic mounts.
- Check for chattering: If the noise is a rapid chatter when charging starts, the contactor coil may be failing or supply voltage may be unstable; have an electrician check voltage.
- Monitor temperature: If noise is accompanied by overheating or burning smell, stop using the charger and arrange service.
