Possible Causes

Main power contactor welded closed, Contactor coil failure, Contactor driver circuit fault on main PCB, Overheating or arcing damage in power relay block

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: This fault involves high-voltage switching components. Do not open the charger casing unless you are a qualified electrician or EV charger technician.

  • 1. Isolate power: Turn off the charger at the consumer unit and lock off if possible. Verify the charger is dead (no LEDs or display).
  • 2. Power reset: Leave the unit powered down for at least 2 minutes to allow internal capacitors to discharge. Then restore power and check if E02 clears.
  • 3. Listen for contactor operation: When starting a charge, you should normally hear a distinct click from inside the charger. If there is no click or a continuous buzzing, the contactor or its driver may be faulty.
  • 4. Check for signs of overheating: Without opening the unit, feel the front of the charger after a failed start (it should not be hot). Any smell of burning or visible discoloration around the casing is a stop-use condition.
  • 5. Do not bypass: Never attempt to bypass the contactor or bridge live terminals. This is extremely dangerous and will void warranties.
  • 6. Call a professional: A technician can open the unit, test the main contactor coil resistance, inspect for welded contacts, and check the driver circuit on the main control board. Replacement of the contactor block or main PCB is typically required if E02 persists.
