Possible Causes

Faulty internal current transformer (CT) sensor, Incorrect current calibration on main PCB, Short circuit or partial short in output wiring, Vehicle drawing more current than configured limit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Warning: Overcurrent conditions can overheat wiring. If you smell burning or see discoloration, isolate the charger immediately.

  • 1. Confirm charge settings: In the Ohme app, check that the maximum current is set correctly for your installation (e.g. 32A for a 7kW charger on suitable wiring). Reduce the limit by a few amps and retry.
  • 2. Power-cycle: Turn off the charger at the isolator for 1 minute, then turn back on and attempt a short test charge.
  • 3. Inspect supply cable (external only): Check the visible supply cable to the charger for signs of overheating, soft insulation, or discoloration. Do not open the charger casing.
  • 4. Try another vehicle: If a second EV charges normally, the first vehicle may be requesting or drawing abnormal current and should be checked by a dealer.
  • 5. Electrician checks: A qualified electrician can verify that the MCB/RCBO rating matches the charger rating and that there are no loose terminations in the supply circuit.
  • 6. Internal component check (technician only): A service technician can open the unit, test the current transformer (CT) sensor, and verify calibration on the main control board. Replacement of the CT harness or main PCB may be required.
