Possible Causes
Moisture ingress in cable or connector, Damaged insulation in tethered cable, Faulty isolation monitoring circuit, Vehicle with internal insulation fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Low insulation resistance can indicate a potential shock hazard. Do not continue using the charger until the cause is identified.
- 1. Unplug vehicle: Disconnect the EV and close the charge port.
- 2. Inspect cable and plug: Look for cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections on the tethered cable. Check the plug head for cracks or signs of water ingress.
- 3. Drying: If the charger or cable has been exposed to heavy rain or washing, switch off power and allow everything to dry thoroughly before retesting.
- 4. Test with another vehicle: If possible, try a different EV. If E09 only appears with one vehicle, that vehicle may have an internal insulation fault and should be inspected by a dealer.
- 5. Insulation testing (technician only): A technician can perform an insulation resistance test on the tethered cable and internal wiring. If the cable fails, it must be replaced. If wiring is sound, the isolation monitoring circuit on the main PCB may be defective.
