Possible Causes
Damaged control pilot (CP) conductor in charge cable, Contaminated or bent pins in vehicle connector, Faulty pilot signal generator on main control board, Loose CP terminal in internal terminal block
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the charger’s dedicated breaker and verify power is off with a suitable tester before opening any covers. Do not work on live EVSE circuits.
- Inspect the vehicle connector: With power off, examine the Polestar home charger’s vehicle plug. Look for bent, recessed, or contaminated pins, especially the small control pilot pin. Clean light debris with a dry, non‑metallic brush. Do not use solvents.
- Check the cable strain relief: Ensure the charge cable is not sharply bent or crushed near the charger housing. If the cable jacket is damaged or feels soft/flat in one area, the CP conductor may be broken internally and the entire cable assembly should be replaced.
- Verify terminal tightness: If you are qualified and local codes permit, remove the charger front cover. Locate the low‑voltage terminal block where the cable conductors (L1/L2, PE, CP, PP) land on the main control board. Gently tug each CP wire to confirm it is secure. Retighten to manufacturer torque if loose.
- Power cycle and retest: Restore power at the breaker, wait 60 seconds for the Polestar charger controller to boot, then reconnect the vehicle. If E01 persists with multiple vehicles, the pilot signal circuit on the main control board is likely defective and the board should be replaced by a qualified technician.
