Possible Causes
Open earth conductor in supply wiring, Loose earth terminal inside charger, Corroded or painted-over earth bonding point, Faulty PE monitoring circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the main breaker feeding the Polestar charger. Only a qualified electrician should work on supply wiring and earth continuity.
- Check supply earth continuity: Have an electrician verify that the supply cable feeding the charger has a continuous, low‑resistance earth conductor from the main panel to the charger location. Repair any open or high‑resistance earth connections.
- Inspect internal earth terminals: With power off, remove the charger cover. Confirm the PE conductor from the supply is firmly secured to the internal earth terminal and that the earth strap from this terminal to the metal chassis (if applicable) is intact and tight.
- Clean bonding surfaces: If the earth lug is mounted on painted metal, ensure there is bare metal contact under the lug. Remove corrosion or paint as needed and resecure.
- Controller check: If earth continuity is confirmed and E03 persists, the PE monitoring circuit on the Polestar EVSE main control board may be faulty. Replacement of the control board should be performed by an authorized service provider.
