Possible Causes

Blocked ventilation openings, Failed internal cooling fan, High ambient temperature around charger, Faulty temperature sensor on power module or control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch off power at the breaker and allow the Polestar charger to cool for at least 30 minutes before touching internal components.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure there is adequate clearance around the charger per the installation manual (typically several inches on all sides). Remove any objects blocking vents or airflow.
  • Clean air paths: Use a soft brush or vacuum (no compressed air directly into electronics) to remove dust from intake and exhaust grilles.
  • Verify fan operation: Restore power and start a charging session while observing the charger. The internal cooling fan should start when current flows or when temperature rises. If the fan does not run, turn power off and inspect the fan connector on the main control or power module. Replace the Polestar cooling fan assembly if seized or non‑functional.
  • Sensor check: If the unit is cool to the touch but still reports E05 immediately, the temperature sensor (NTC) on the power module or control board may be faulty. This requires board or sensor replacement by a technician.
