Possible Causes

Leakage current detected by integrated DC residual current sensor, Faulty internal RCD module on Porsche wallbox main board, Moisture ingress in Type 2 socket or cable head, Insulation breakdown in output cable from wallbox to vehicle connector

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a charger that is tripping on ground fault. This may indicate a real shock hazard. Turn off the breaker and avoid using the charger until basic checks are done.

  • Visual moisture check: Inspect the wallbox enclosure, cable entry glands, and Type 2 socket/plug for signs of water, condensation, or corrosion. If the unit is wet, leave it powered off and allow it to dry for at least 24 hours in a dry environment.
  • Check for physical damage: Look for crushed cable sections, exposed conductors, or burn marks on the plug or socket. Replace the Porsche charging cable assembly if any damage is found.
  • Reset the charger: After confirming everything is dry and undamaged, reset the wallbox according to the Porsche manual (usually via front panel button or power cycle at the breaker). Attempt a short test charge while monitoring for recurrence.
  • Test with another vehicle: If possible, try charging a different Porsche EV. If E02 only occurs with one vehicle, the fault may be in that vehicle’s onboard charger or inlet.
  • Technician RCD test: A qualified electrician should test the integrated RCD / DC residual current sensor on the main control board and verify earth continuity and insulation resistance of the installation wiring. Replace the RCD module or main control PCB if it fails tests.
