Possible Causes
Faulty control pilot (CP) signal generation on Porsche wallbox main board, Damaged CP conductor in Type 2 cable, Contamination or damage on CP pin in vehicle connector, Incompatible or outdated firmware on wallbox causing handshake failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before inspecting connectors or opening the unit.
- Inspect CP pin: On the Type 2 plug, locate the small control pilot pin. Check for bending, corrosion, or contamination. Clean gently with a dry cloth; do not use abrasives.
- Check cable strain: Ensure the cable is not under tension or sharply bent near the plug or wallbox. Excessive strain can break the CP conductor internally.
- Firmware update: If your Porsche wallbox supports network connectivity, log into the web interface or Porsche app and check for firmware updates. Apply any recommended updates and reboot the charger.
- Test with another vehicle or EVSE: Try charging the same vehicle on a different EVSE, and try another Porsche vehicle on your wallbox. This helps isolate whether the issue is with the wallbox or the car.
- Technician CP circuit test: A qualified technician can measure the CP waveform at the socket and verify correct duty cycle and voltage levels. If out of spec, replace the main control PCB or the cable assembly if the fault is in the harness.
