Possible Causes
Loose contacts in wall receptacle, Undersized or worn plug blades on Primecom input cord, Corroded J1772 pins, Undersized circuit wiring causing heat buildup
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Overheated electrical connections are a fire hazard. Stop using the charger until the cause is corrected.
- 1. Stop charging and cool down: Unplug the charger and allow all components to cool completely.
- 2. Inspect plug and receptacle: Look for discoloration, melting, or burn marks on the plug blades and outlet. Replace any damaged parts immediately.
- 3. Tighten or replace receptacle: Have an electrician check the receptacle's internal contacts and replace it with a heavy-duty, EV-rated outlet if loose.
- 4. Clean J1772 pins: If the handle is hot, inspect the pins for corrosion or dirt. Clean gently with a dry cloth; do not use abrasives or liquids.
- 5. Verify circuit sizing: Confirm that the breaker and wiring gauge meet Primecom's installation requirements for the charger's maximum current.
