Possible Causes

Damaged J1772 control pilot pin, Broken pilot signal wire in charge cable, Faulty control pilot driver circuit on main control board, Corroded or bent pins in vehicle connector

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the charger from the wall outlet or turn off the dedicated breaker before inspecting any wiring. Never open the charger while it is energized.

  • 1. Inspect the J1772 connector: Look closely at the small pilot pin (usually the thin pin near the center). Check for bending, corrosion, or contamination. Clean gently with a dry, soft brush; do not use liquids.
  • 2. Check cable strain: Flex the cable gently near the handle and near the charger housing. If the error appears only when the cable is bent, the pilot conductor may be broken internally.
  • 3. Test with another vehicle (if available): If the charger works on another EV, the issue may be with the vehicle inlet rather than the charger.
  • 4. Power-cycle the charger: Turn off the breaker for 2 minutes, then restore power and reconnect to the vehicle. If E01 returns immediately, the internal control board may be faulty.
  • 5. Do not bypass safety circuits: If the pilot pin or cable is damaged, replace the cable assembly or contact a qualified technician. Operating with a compromised pilot circuit is unsafe.
