Possible Causes

Worn or welded power relay contacts, Relay coil failure, Control board relay driver fault, Overcurrent event causing contact damage

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: A stuck relay can leave the output energized unexpectedly. Turn off the breaker and verify no voltage is present at the J1772 pins before touching.

  • 1. Listen for normal relay operation: When starting a charge, you should hear a single, clean click. Rapid clicking or no click at all suggests relay issues.
  • 2. Power-cycle and retest: Turn off power for 5 minutes, then restore and attempt to start a charge. If E06 returns immediately, the relay is likely faulty.
  • 3. Do not strike or tap the unit: Hitting the charger to free a stuck relay is unsafe and can worsen the damage.
  • 4. Internal inspection (qualified person only): With power disconnected and capacitors discharged, open the housing and visually inspect the main power relay/contactor for discoloration, burning, or cracking.
  • 5. Replace relay or control board: On many Primecom models, the relay is mounted on the main control board and replaced as an assembly. Use an identical rated component. If unsure, have a professional perform the repair.
