Possible Causes

Loose supply or load terminal heating up and opening circuit, Overheating contactor causing thermal trip, Marginal RCD/MCB tripping and auto‑resetting, Poor connection in tethered cable or socket

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Intermittent disconnections under load can cause arcing and fire risk. Do not continue using the charger until inspected.

  • Check consumer unit: After a stop event, inspect whether the EV charger MCB or RCD has tripped or feels warm.
  • Inspect terminations (power off): Isolate the charger and check all high‑current terminations (supply in, contactor, output to cable/socket) for tightness and signs of overheating.
  • Examine tethered cable: Look for hot spots, kinks, or damage along the cable. A warm section may indicate internal conductor damage.
  • Monitor temperature: During a supervised test charge, periodically feel the outside of the enclosure and cable (they may be warm but should not be hot). Stop immediately if overheating is suspected.
  • Replace suspect components: Any discoloured terminals, burnt contactors, or damaged cables should be replaced with Rolec‑approved parts.
