Possible Causes

High resistance at J1772 connector pins, Worn or loose contacts in charge handle, Overheated vehicle inlet, Damaged temperature sensor in handle (if equipped)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Stop charging and allow the connector to cool. Do not touch metal pins while connected to power.

  • Inspect connector: Look for discoloration, melting, or deformation of the plastic around the J1772 pins. Any sign of heat damage means the handle should be replaced.
  • Check for debris: Remove any dirt or foreign objects from the connector with a dry, soft brush. Do not use metal tools that could damage contacts.
  • Feel for looseness: When plugging into the vehicle, the connector should fit snugly. Excessive play can cause arcing and heat. If loose, replace the handle/cable assembly.
  • Try lower current (if adjustable): Reduce the charger’s output current setting to decrease heating, especially on older vehicle inlets.
  • If E10 recurs with a new handle: The temperature sensor circuit in the handle or on the control board may be faulty. Have a technician test and replace the sensor harness or board as needed.
