Possible Causes
Incorrect pilot duty cycle generation, Faulty pilot resistor network in handle, Damaged pilot wire, Control board pilot measurement failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before inspecting the cable or opening the charger.
- Inspect handle and cable: Look for physical damage to the J1772 handle and cable. If the cable has been run over or sharply bent, internal pilot wiring may be broken.
- Test with another EV: If the charger detects another vehicle correctly, the issue may be with the original vehicle’s inlet or pilot circuit.
- Check for water ingress: Moisture inside the handle can affect the pilot resistor network. Allow the handle to dry thoroughly in a warm, dry area.
- If E13 persists on multiple vehicles: The pilot resistor network in the handle or the pilot measurement circuit on the control board is likely faulty. Replace the handle/cable assembly first; if unresolved, have the control board tested and replaced.
