Possible Causes

Open ground in supply circuit, Loose ground lug inside charger, Corroded ground connection at service panel, Faulty ground detection circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not use the charger until the ground fault is resolved. Turn OFF the breaker and lock it out if possible.

  • Verify ground at receptacle or hardwire point: Have an electrician test the EV circuit for a solid equipment ground using an appropriate tester or meter.
  • Inspect ground conductor: With power OFF, open the junction box or charger input compartment and confirm the ground wire is securely attached to the ground lug and not corroded or broken.
  • Check for paint or rust: Ensure the ground lug is bonded to bare metal, not painted or rusted surfaces.
  • If wiring is correct: The internal ground detection circuit on the Schumacher control board may be faulty. Contact Schumacher support or an EVSE technician for board replacement.
