Possible Causes
Dirty or damaged Type 2 connector pins, Faulty proximity or pilot contact in socket, Misconfigured authorization mode (RFID required), Vehicle-side charging port fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Do not insert or remove the plug under visible arcing or damage.
- Step 1 – Check authorization: In the Shell Recharge app, verify whether RFID or app authorization is required. If so, present a valid RFID card or start via the app.
- Step 2 – Inspect connector: Examine the plug and vehicle inlet for dirt, corrosion, or bent pins. Clean gently with a dry cloth.
- Step 3 – Try another vehicle or cable: If possible, test with a different EV or a different Type 2 cable (for socketed units) to isolate whether the issue is with the charger or the vehicle/cable.
- Step 4 – Power cycle: Turn the charger off at the breaker for 60 seconds, then on, and retry.
- Step 5 – If still no start and other vehicles also fail: The pilot/proximity circuit or socket assembly may be faulty and require service.
