How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: EV chargers contain high voltage. Do not open the enclosure unless power is fully isolated and you are qualified. For most users, limit actions to external checks and power cycling.

  • Step 1 – Power cycle the charger: Turn OFF the dedicated breaker feeding the Shell Recharge home charger. Wait at least 60 seconds, then turn the breaker back ON. Check if E01 clears in the app or on the LED indicator.
  • Step 2 – Check supply voltage: Verify the charger’s MCB/RCD in the consumer unit is fully ON and not tripped. If you have a multimeter and are qualified, confirm correct line voltage at the charger’s supply terminals according to the installation manual.
  • Step 3 – Check for overheating: Feel the outside of the unit. If it is unusually hot, allow it to cool for 30–60 minutes, then retry. Ensure the charger has adequate ventilation and is not in direct intense sunlight.
  • Step 4 – Check app/firmware: Open the Shell Recharge app, check for pending firmware updates for the wallbox. Apply any updates and then reboot the charger via the app or breaker.
  • Step 5 – If E01 persists: Do not continue to reset repeatedly. Contact Shell Recharge support with the serial number, photos of the installation, and the E01 code. Internal diagnostics of the control PCB or low-voltage power module may be required.
