Charger reports E02 and refuses to start charging; vehicle may show ‘charging station error’ or ‘check cable’.

Safety warning: Do not open the charger unless the circuit breaker is OFF and you are competent to work on electrical equipment.

• Step 1 – Inspect the cable: Disconnect the cable from both the car and the Shell Recharge charger. Inspect the Type 2 plug pins, especially the small control pilot (CP) and proximity (PP) pins, for corrosion, dirt, or bent pins. Clean gently with a dry, lint-free cloth.
• Step 2 – Try another cable: If your Shell Recharge unit has a socket (not tethered), try a different, known-good Type 2 cable. If E02 disappears, the original cable is likely faulty.
• Step 3 – Check connector lock: Ensure the plug is fully inserted and latched. A partially inserted plug can cause pilot signal errors.
• Step 4 – Power reset: Turn OFF the breaker for 60 seconds, then ON again. Reconnect the cable and attempt charging.
• Step 5 – Internal checks (installer only): With power isolated, remove the front cover and verify that the CP and PP conductors are firmly secured in the terminal block on the control PCB according to the wiring diagram.
• Step 6 – If unresolved: The pilot driver circuit on the main control PCB may be defective. Contact Shell Recharge support or a qualified EVSE technician.
