Possible Causes
Blocked ventilation around charger, Direct sunlight causing enclosure overheating, Failing internal temperature sensor, Loose or overheating terminals inside charger
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Fire risk: Overheating can damage insulation and components. Do not ignore repeated temperature faults.
- Step 1 – Allow cooling: Stop charging and let the Shell Recharge unit cool for at least 30–60 minutes. Do not cover the charger.
- Step 2 – Improve airflow: Ensure there is clear space around the charger (no boxes, coats, or other items blocking it). If installed in a garage, improve ventilation.
- Step 3 – Avoid peak heat: In very hot climates, schedule charging for cooler hours via the app.
- Step 4 – Check for hot smells or discoloration: If you notice a burning smell or yellowed plastic, turn off the breaker and contact a technician immediately.
- Step 5 – Internal inspection (technician only): With power off, inspect terminal blocks and the main contactor for signs of overheating. Verify the temperature sensor harness is properly connected to the control PCB.
- Step 6 – Sensor or PCB replacement: If the charger reports E08 even when cold, the internal temperature sensor or control PCB may be faulty and require replacement.
