Possible Causes
Worn or damaged Type 2 socket contacts, Loose wiring to socket terminals, Plug inserted or removed under load due to faulty contactor, Contaminants on contacts increasing resistance
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Immediate danger: Stop using the charger until inspected. Arcing can cause fire or connector damage.
- Step 1 – Stop charging: End the session via the app or RFID, then turn off the breaker before unplugging if safe to do so.
- Step 2 – Inspect connector: Look for burn marks, pitting, or melted plastic on the plug and socket. Do not reuse damaged connectors.
- Step 3 – Technician inspection: Have a qualified EVSE technician open the charger (with power off) and check the socket wiring and contactor operation to ensure the output is de-energized before plug removal.
- Step 4 – Replace damaged parts: Replace the Type 2 socket assembly and any damaged wiring or contactor as required.
