Charger will not start charging; vehicle shows ‘Charging Station Error’ and Sun Country Highway unit displays E01 shortly after plugging in.

Safety first: Turn off the breaker feeding the Sun Country Highway EVSE and verify power is off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching wiring.

• Inspect the J1772 handle: Look closely at the pilot pin (the small signal pin) inside the connector. Check for bent, recessed, or burned contacts. Clean light oxidation with electrical contact cleaner and a soft brush. If the plastic is melted or the pin is loose, the output cable/handle assembly must be replaced.
• Check the cable strain relief: At the bottom of the Sun Country Highway enclosure, gently flex the cable near the strain relief. If the error appears only when the cable is bent, the pilot conductor may be broken inside the cable. Do not continue using it; replace the output cable assembly.
• Inspect vehicle inlet: With the vehicle off, visually inspect the car’s charge port for bent or contaminated pins. Clean only with approved contact cleaner and a lint‑free swab; never use metal tools.
• Reset the EVSE: Turn the breaker off for 2 minutes, then back on. Plug into the vehicle again. If E01 returns immediately with multiple vehicles, the control board pilot driver on the Sun Country Highway unit is likely faulty and the control board should be replaced by a qualified technician.
