Possible Causes

Open ground conductor in supply wiring, Loose ground lug inside charger, Corroded or painted-over ground connection at panel, Faulty ground monitoring circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not operate the charger without a proper equipment ground. Turn off power before opening the unit.

  • Check ground at panel: Verify that the ground conductor feeding the Sun Country Highway charger is securely landed on the grounding bar and that the bar is properly bonded.
  • Inspect ground inside EVSE: With the cover removed and power off, confirm that the ground wire is firmly attached to the EVSE ground terminal or chassis bonding point. Tighten if loose.
  • Continuity test: A technician can test continuity between the EVSE chassis and the panel ground bar. High resistance or open circuit indicates a broken or corroded ground conductor that must be repaired.
  • Repainted surfaces: If the EVSE or mounting surface was recently painted, ensure that the ground lug has bare metal contact; remove paint under the lug if necessary.
  • Control board replacement: If ground continuity is confirmed good but E05 persists, the ground monitoring circuit on the control board may be faulty and require board replacement.
