Possible Causes
Faulty pilot generation circuit on control board, Short between pilot and ground, Incorrect resistor network on pilot output, Damaged pilot conductor in cable causing distortion
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before opening the enclosure or handling internal wiring.
- Inspect pilot wiring: Trace the pilot conductor from the control board to the J1772 cable gland. Ensure there are no nicks, pinches, or loose connections.
- Check for shorts: A technician can test for continuity between the pilot conductor and ground with power off. Any short indicates cable damage and requires cable replacement.
- Board inspection: On the control board, inspect the pilot driver components (often near the J1772 cable connector) for visible damage.
- Replace cable or board: If the cable tests good but E11 persists, the pilot generation circuit on the control board is likely defective and the board should be replaced. If the cable is damaged, replace the J1772 output cable assembly.
