Possible Causes
Internal contactor contacts welded closed from previous overload, Mechanical failure of contactor armature, Control board driving contactor incorrectly, Severe surge or short event
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: A welded contactor can leave live voltage at the output even when the charger appears off. Turn off the breaker and verify power is removed before touching the cable or terminals.
- Do not use the charger: If CP_a005 is present, discontinue use immediately. A welded contactor is a serious safety hazard.
- Visual inspection: With power off and cover removed (qualified person only), inspect the contactor area for signs of arcing, soot, or melted plastic.
- Check output de‑energization: A professional should verify with a meter that no voltage is present at the output when the contactor is commanded open. If voltage remains, the contactor is welded.
- Replace unit: Tesla Wall Connector contactors are integrated and not designed for field replacement. The entire Wall Connector should be replaced.
