Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If the breaker trips repeatedly, do not keep resetting it. Turn it OFF and leave the charger de-energized until inspected.
- Visual inspection: With power OFF and cover removed, look for obvious damage: burned components, melted insulation, or soot on the PCB or wiring.
- Check surge protection module: Many EVSE units include MOVs or SPD modules near the line input. Inspect for cracking or charring; a failed MOV often shows visible damage.
- Isolate the charger: Disconnect the charger from the circuit (qualified electrician only) and test insulation resistance between line and ground. Low resistance indicates an internal short.
Internal shorts typically require replacement of the damaged module or the entire charger assembly. This repair is not recommended for untrained users; contact a professional or United Chargers support.
