Possible Causes
Cumulative leakage current from charger and other loads, Shared neutral on multiple circuits, Sensitive upstream RCD type, Minor insulation leakage in cable
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not bypass or replace protective devices with higher ratings without an electrician’s assessment.
- Dedicated circuit: Ensure the charger is on its own circuit with a dedicated RCD/GFCI as required by code.
- Check neutrals: Have an electrician verify that neutrals from different circuits are not tied together downstream of the RCD.
- Inspect cable: Look for damage or moisture that could increase leakage.
If nuisance tripping persists, consult an electrician about using an RCD type compatible with EVSE loads and have the charger inspected for leakage.
