Possible Causes
Loose J1772 connector in vehicle inlet, Dirty or oxidized connector pins, Weak pilot signal amplitude, Vehicle-side charging system fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not force the connector into the vehicle inlet.
- Reconnect carefully: Unplug and firmly reinsert the J1772 connector until the latch clicks.
- Clean connector: Inspect for dirt or corrosion on the pins. Clean gently with a soft, dry brush or electronics contact cleaner.
- Test another EV or EVSE: Try charging a different vehicle with the same charger, and your vehicle with another charger, to isolate whether the issue is charger- or vehicle-side.
- Check cable strain relief: Ensure the cable is not under tension that could partially pull the connector out of the vehicle inlet.
If the charger works with other vehicles, contact your vehicle manufacturer. If it fails with all vehicles, the pilot circuit or cable may need service.
