Possible Causes

Welded or stuck main contactor, Open coil on main contactor, Loose control wiring from main board to contactor, Faulty contactor driver circuit on Vestel main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: The main contactor switches high current. Isolate the charger at the main breaker and verify no voltage is present before touching internal components.

  • 1. Listen for contactor operation: When a charge session is commanded, you should normally hear a distinct click. If E04 appears with no click, suspect coil or driver issues; if a click is heard but no power flows, suspect welded or burned contacts.
  • 2. Visual inspection: With power off and cover removed, locate the main contactor. Check for discoloration, melted plastic, or signs of overheating on terminals.
  • 3. Check coil connections: Verify that the low‑voltage control wires from the main control board to the contactor coil are secure. Reseat any plug-in connectors.
  • 4. Coil resistance test: Disconnect the coil wires and measure coil resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit or very high resistance indicates a failed coil; replace the contactor with a Vestel‑approved part of the same rating.
  • 5. Contact welding check: With power isolated, check continuity across the main contacts. They should be open when the coil is not energized. If they are permanently closed, the contactor is welded and must be replaced.
  • 6. Driver circuit diagnosis: If the contactor tests good but is not being energized, the driver transistor or relay on the main control board may be faulty. Replace the main control board.
