Possible Causes

Welded or stuck main contactor in VW wallbox, Contactor coil failure, Control board not driving contactor correctly, Excessive arcing due to repeated hot‑plugging

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: A faulty contactor can cause overheating and fire risk. If you hear loud buzzing, chattering, or smell burning, switch off the breaker immediately.

  • Listen during start: When you plug in and start a session, you should hear a distinct ‘clack’ from the internal contactor. No sound or repeated clicking suggests a problem.
  • Check for heat: After a short attempted session, carefully feel the lower part of the VW wallbox housing. It should be warm at most, not hot.
  • Power cycle: Turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON, and retry. Transient control errors can sometimes clear.

Diagnosis and replacement of the main contactor require opening the VW wallbox, verifying coil voltage, and checking contact resistance. This must be done by a qualified EVSE technician. Do not continue using the charger if E007 recurs.
