Possible Causes

Loose or oxidized high‑current terminals inside Volvo wallbox, Worn or damaged Type 2 connector contacts, Undersized or damaged supply cable, Blocked ventilation around charger

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If the housing or cable is too hot to hold, stop charging immediately and turn OFF the breaker.

  • Inspect cable and plug: Look for discoloration, softening, or deformation of the plug housing. Replace the cable if any damage is found.
  • Check internal terminals (power OFF): Remove the cover and retighten all line, neutral, and earth terminals on both input and output sides. Use a torque screwdriver.
  • Improve ventilation: Ensure the charger is not enclosed in a tight cabinet and has the clearances specified by Volvo.

Persistent overheating indicates a serious safety issue. If tightening and cable replacement do not resolve it, discontinue use and have the charger inspected professionally.
