Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the dedicated Volvo charger circuit breaker at the main panel and verify the charger LEDs go dark before touching any wiring. Do not open the charger if you are not comfortable working around mains voltage.
- Inspect the Type 2 connector: Disconnect the cable from the vehicle. Check the Type 2 plug for bent pins, melted plastic, corrosion, or dirt. Clean gently with a soft brush and isopropyl alcohol; do not use metal tools on the pins.
- Check vehicle inlet: Inspect the Volvo vehicle’s Type 2 inlet for debris or damage. If pins are recessed, burnt, or loose, stop and contact a Volvo service center.
- Test with another cable (if removable): If your Volvo wallbox uses a detachable Type 2 cable, try another known‑good cable rated for the same current. If the error clears, replace the original cable.
- Power‑cycle the charger: With the breaker OFF, wait 60 seconds, then turn it back ON. Allow the charger to boot fully, then reconnect the vehicle and observe if E01 returns.
- Internal harness check (advanced): With power OFF and cover removed, visually inspect the low‑voltage harness from the main control board to the relay/contact block. Look for loose plugs, broken locking tabs, or chafed wires. Reseat connectors firmly. Restore power and retest.
If E01 persists after cable and connector checks, the control pilot circuit on the main control board is likely faulty. At this point, contact a qualified EVSE technician or Volvo Home Charging support for board replacement.
