Possible Causes

Blocked ventilation around Volvo wallbox, High ambient temperature exceeding design limits, Failed internal temperature sensor on control board or heatsink, Loose high‑current connections causing localized heating near sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If the charger housing feels very hot, stop using it and turn OFF the breaker until it cools.

  • Check installation location: Ensure the charger has the required clearance around it (per Volvo manual) and is not installed in direct sunlight or near heat sources.
  • Inspect vents and seals: Clear any dust, cobwebs, or obstructions from ventilation slots. Do not cover the charger with any enclosure that restricts airflow unless approved by Volvo.
  • Check cable and terminals (power OFF): Remove the cover and inspect high‑current terminals and the contactor for signs of overheating (discolored insulation, smell of burnt plastic). Tighten loose terminals to spec.
  • Allow to cool and retest: After cooling for at least 30–60 minutes, restore power and attempt a charge. Monitor temperature by touch; it should be warm at most, not hot.

If E08 recurs in normal ambient conditions and with good airflow, the internal temperature sensor or control board may be faulty. A technician can test the sensor and replace the board if necessary.
